According to an article on the World Unity website, at the beginning of the corona pandemic, the Spanish government ordered the army to spray civilians from planes with ‘deadly chemtrails’. It’s not true. The ministerial decree on which Worldunity bases this claim relates to the disinfection of indoor spaces via cloth.

The message contains a link to an article on the website The unity of the world, according to Hoax Wiki, a website that publishes articles glorifying pseudoscience. Spain admits to spraying deadly chemtrails as part of secret UN program to fight COVID-19. The same article is also shared on Facebook.

According to The unity of the world Spain has allegedly sprayed its citizens from planes with “deadly chemtrails”. The word chemtrail – a contraction of ‘chemical’ and ‘trail’ – stands for the white trails that can be seen on clear days when planes fly past. According to some, these ‘chemtrails’ are toxic fumes emitted from the planes over the population. The existence of chemtrails has already been refuted by several international scientists.

In Spain, according to world unity, The chemtrail spraying happened during the first corona wave in the spring of 2020, when the country was in a state of emergency. Moreover, it would have happened with the permission of the UN.

State of emergency

At least that’s what The unity of the world believes to be derived from a Ministerial Decree of 17 April 2020, which in turn refers to the Royal Decree of 14 March 2020 declaring a state of emergency in Spain due to covid-19. As a result, the Spanish Ministries of Health and Defense were given extra powers to introduce corona measures. On 21 June 2020, the state of emergency in Spain was lifted. In autumn 2020, a state of emergency was again declared in Spain. It ended on May 9, 2021.

Since the lifting of the state of emergency, the relevant ministerial decree is no longer in force. Furthermore, this decision had nothing to do with chemtrails or the UN. The decision gave the army permission to disinfect closed indoor spaces such as hospitals and prisons via (micro) nebulizers on instructions from the Minister of Health. There is no mention of the use of aircraft or a UN program. This is national legislation that the UN has nothing to do with. The UN advised national governments on how to tackle the health crisis during the corona pandemic.

This is not the first time that this kind of misinformation has been spread. The Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia already rejected the claim in April 2020, and the German news agency dpa did a fact-check on it already in October 2021.

The regulation therefore had nothing to do with spraying from aircraft. Furthermore, there is no scientific evidence for the existence of chemtrails, as Knack previously explained in a fact check. The streaks that airplanes leave in the sky are contrails.

Conclusion

According to an article on the website The unity of the world At the beginning of the corona pandemic, the Spanish government ordered the army to spray civilians from planes with ‘deadly chemtrails’. It’s not true. The ministerial decree, upon which The unity of the world this claim is based on the disinfection of indoor spaces through fogging. There is no scientific evidence for the existence of chemtrails. We therefore assess the claim as False.
