Installing drives and allowing movement in tight installation spaces is a challenge companies often face. Igus has therefore refined its range of PRT-04 slewing bearings to meet these applications, with an extremely compact slewing bearing for even more space saving.

Save installation space and weight without sacrificing performance reliability – while completely eliminating lubrication. This is what the Igus PRT-04 micro can do. Igus thus adds a particularly small and robust slewing ring bearing to its product range. The PRT-04 micro has an outer diameter of 60 mm, the smallest installation size among Igus PRT slewing ring bearings.

It consists of three aluminum rings and a newly developed sliding element made of iglidur J high-performance plastic, which works particularly well on aluminum and ensures good wear coefficients and a long service life. It also has low moisture absorption and good chemical resistance. Depending on the customer’s individual wishes, other materials can also be used. Like all bearings from igus, the PRT-04 micro is 100% lubricant-free and therefore insensitive to dirt, dust and moisture.

Lightweight for moving applications

“Aluminum with plastic offers two crucial design advantages: it is light and yet stable. For example, despite its small size, the PRT-04 micro can compete with comparable products on the market and can withstand high loads (up to 3500 N) in the axial direction, although it is much more compact,” says Fabian Wieking, Product Manager for PRT slewing ring bearings at Igus. This allows for smooth turning and turning movements in even smaller installation spaces, giving rise to a number of possible applications. The low weight is also very relevant in all sectors.

Application

Possible applications are small, movable lighting installations – so-called moving head applications – or folding tables in trains and planes, but also car applications. A low weight also pays off here in terms of fuel consumption. Less weight means less consumption – and thus another way to achieve the goal of greater sustainability.

Maintenance

Eliminating lubricants also adds value as maintaining equipment costs time and money. The solid lubricants in the iglidur material not only ensure that the sprocket bearing works without grease and oils, they also eliminate the need for maintenance – all while the sprocket bearing is extremely durable. Another advantage is that the PRT-04 micro is a ready-to-use component that can be integrated directly into an application. This eliminates design costs and DIY rental points.

Series PRT-04 slewing ring bearings

Since 2019, the PRT-04 slewing ring bearing series has been available, a comprehensive and constantly growing modular system specially developed for movement in tight spaces. It consists of several combinable variants. The PRT expert helps to choose the right bearing: by entering only a few parameters related to installation space, load, speed and environment, the configurator can find the right slewing bearing for the customer’s individual application and calculate the expected service life in the same step. The service life is thoroughly checked in Igus’ own 3800 m2 test laboratory. The collected data is integrated into the PRT configurator, which enables a reliable assessment of the life of the slewing ring bearings.
