As a spokesperson for the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), you have an influential job. You deal with important themes that affect all residents of the Netherlands, such as food safety, product safety, animal welfare and plant health. You give the media information about this. You do this in a timely, unequivocal and fact-based manner.
As a spokesperson, you will work within the Strategy Department, the Communications Department and the News Team. You will work in a passionate team of six colleagues and together with the department you will oversee NVWA’s reputation as a reliable, transparent, independent and professional supervisor.
What do you want to do?
As a spokesperson, you inform the media about the aforementioned themes, so that it is clear to journalists and external parties what we do and what we stand for. You have a proactive attitude and think together with professional colleagues and colleagues from the Communications Department about which activities in NVWA deserve extra attention.
A job with impact? Absolutely. Our field of activity is broad. It seems so obvious that we can trust that food and other products that we can buy in the Netherlands are safe. That companies treat animals well and that they do not affect nature. We can rely on that, because there are laws and regulations that companies must comply with. NVWA ensures that they do. As a spokesperson, you ensure that we formulate in a consistent way what we as NVWA stand for, with different accents for the different target groups.
You are on top of it. You follow both traditional media and social media closely. By building and maintaining an internal network, you can answer media questions as well as possible and translate complex communication and media questions from NVWA into a clear media strategy with clear core messages. At the right times, you make active use of a network of (professional) journalists, which you maintain together with your colleagues.
You proactively identify and seize opportunities to make NVWA’s activities and knowledge visible in the community and adjust unwanted imagery. You are able to think beyond a press release and can also wrap a message in a good social post or video that you create together with a colleague from the Content & Media team. In addition, you also contribute to online advocacy and you advise management and employees on media appearances and the importance of publishing NVWA results. In this way, as a spokesperson, you connect NVWA’s internal and external interests flawlessly.
You are approachable, collegial, show responsibility and don’t like the infamous 9-to-5 mentality. Our spokespersons are switched to standby outside of office hours.
You think collaboration is important and like to go the extra mile to bring a task to a successful conclusion. You work proactively with an eye on the customer and the result, and you can quickly switch between things in an environment where the pressure is sometimes high. You are stress-resistant. You know what is going on in the environment and you understand how the organization works. Furthermore, you act curiously, proactively, passionately and decisively.
Finally, we would like to see the following:
• You have at least an HBO diploma in communication or journalism or a university degree.
• You are a senior in communications and have a good idea about the position of rapporteur, preferably in a political-administrative environment.
• You have knowledge of media and reputation management and relevant developments in the field.
• You have demonstrable knowledge of, experience and affiliation with social media.
• Knowledge of the agricultural sector is an advantage.

• A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is required to work at NVWA.
• If it is an employment contract for an indefinite period and you do not (yet) have a permanent employment contract as a civil servant, then you (in principle) start, in order to assess your suitability, with a fixed-term employment contract with a view to an indefinite period .
• Clearly state in your curriculum vitae that you meet the desired educational requirements.
• The selection committee can obtain references, but will always coordinate this with you in advance.
• An online screening via search engines or social media, for example, can be part of the selection process.
• A competency test and/or an assessment may be part of the selection procedure.
• A comprehensive A or B screening by the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) may be a requirement for a number of positions at NVWA (including IOD).
