Come to Preuvenement in Assen, buy things at Tafel in de Tuin, stroll through the salt marsh landscape, come and have a snack at the LieFair or Bierum fair or visit the Bommen Berend Boeskool festival.

Culture and food tasting in Assen

Come and get a taste of all kinds of theater and music programs that can be admired in the theaters in the coming year. From Friday to Sunday, Gouverneurstuin and Brink in Assen are filled with performances and catering stands. During Preuvenement you will see concerts and performances planned in Assen for the coming season, and it is best to order from the menu at catering companies.

The test event will be extra festive this year after the corona years. For the little ones, there are all kinds of play and craft activities, and there is a selection of food and drink options, from haute cuisine to poffertjes. Music lovers can indulge themselves at the Koepelpodium, Vijverpodium and Brinkpodium, which have a continuous and varied programme.

Sweet beer and flea market

In the last weekend of August it is esdorp Lieveren again dominated by LieFair. You will find brocante, old handicrafts, local products, live music and a culinary square.

All participants sell their items on a table or rug from their own property: front yard, driveway or backyard. There are more than 200 participants that you can stroll along.

Books, art and regional products

Take a look at the annual market in Bierum. With a book market and an art and harvest fair, the market offers enough variety. On Saturdays you will find various regional products and art objects at De Luiningahof. You can walk right through the old orchard on the former castle grounds in castle Luinga and enjoy the new harvest of apples, pears and plums. There are several art stalls under the old fruit trees. At the Vrienden van het Oude Fruit stand, there is a small fruit show and you can have fruit varieties identified.

It is recommended to bring five copies per race. Near the old school you will find the book market, a terrace and the open bakery Olinga. Children can enjoy a merry-go-round and jump around the playground thanks to a large air cushion. The annual market is open on Saturday from 10.00 to 17.00, after which the catering area continues until 01.00.

Bomber Berend Boerskool Festival

Zuidwolde becomes a large festival site on Saturday as well Bommen Berend Boerskool Festival. The festival focuses on two things: boeskool – or sauerkraut – and 350 years of Groningen Relief. Everyone in and out of the village is welcome that day. Attend lectures, take a guided tour or take part in a sports match.

There is also food, music and a children’s program at the festival. It’s all an initiative of Museum aan de A, the historical association of Bedum municipality and Stichting Platform Zuidwolde.

Cycle and walk through the salt marsh landscape near Pieterburen. On Saturday you can get to know this part of the Netherlands, where the border between the mainland and the water lies, led by a guide. Get to know the plants and animals that live here daily and experience the silence.

The excursion starts at the Wadden Sea visitor center in Pieterburen. From there you cycle to Klutenplas, after which you continue on foot.
