Covestro celebrates the 60th anniversary of its location in Waalwijk and supports 60 families through the food bank ‘De Rijglaars’

The Covestro location in Waalwijk has a birthday cake with 60 candles today. It all started in 1962 with the founding of Polyvinyl Chemie Holland BV, which produced raw materials for the leather finish manufacturer Stahl. Given the shoe industry present in the “Langstraat”, Waalwijk was a logical choice for this.

The early 1960s were marked by the construction of the first emulsion reactor, a warehouse, storage tanks, an office and a research laboratory. In the 1970s and 1980s, investments were made in factories for new products – such as urethanes and pearls – and production expansions followed.

In 1985 the company was bought by ICI and also under the new name ICI Resins BV the company continued to grow with increasing attention to safety and the environment. A year after this takeover, the water treatment plant was started up. During the ICI period, more and more new products and production processes were developed. In 1993 the name was changed to Zeneca Resins and in 1999 the name of the facade was changed to NeoResins. This company was again taken over by DSM in 2005. Over the next 16 years, DSM invested heavily in expanding its production and storage capacity with a strong focus on safety and the environment.

Since April 2021, the Waalwijk site has been part of the globally operating Covestro group. And also under this name, the site continues to focus on sustainability and contributes to a more beautiful and better world for future generations. The site develops, produces and sells, among other things, binders for paints and varnishes and high-quality water-based resins for coatings.

Over the past 60 years, the company has continually adapted to changing environmental factors and market conditions. But one thing hasn’t changed. Over the years, the Waalwijk site has remained a reliable employer, providing employment for several generations. Today, 450 employees work in production, logistics, R&D, marketing and sales. And with an eye to the future, Covestro in Waalwijk is still looking for motivated process operators and maintenance technicians.

On this 60th birthday, Covestro would like to let everyone join in the celebrations. As a contribution to a more beautiful and better world, on the one hand, the company makes a sustainable gesture towards its own employees with the opening of a new parking lot, which is equipped with a lot of greenery and which, as a cooling corridor, should reduce heat stress on site , by allowing cooler air to enter the harbor.

Covestro also attaches great importance to a good relationship with the environment. “On the occasion of our 60th anniversary, we are happy to be able to hand over an amount of 3,000 euros to the Food Bank ‘De Rijglaars’ today. With this amount, we can support 60 families in the region in their livelihood for several months. And that is badly needed in a period of unprecedented price increases. Today we also invite all our guests – who would like to send us a birthday present – to donate to the food bank and in the coming weeks we also encourage our employees to deliver food to the Food Bank to us through a collection campaign,” says Gerard Van Binsbergen, site manager for the Covestro site in Waalwijk.
