UX Designer at The Hague Municipality

UX designer

Do you want to design how residents and entrepreneurs can have more influence on the municipality’s policy and projects in the city? Then we’re looking for you!

We are looking for an experienced and ambitious UX Designer who wants to make a social impact with his UX Design skills, and who wants to lift the residents’ and entrepreneurs’ experience to a higher level with your designs. You think it is important that residents and entrepreneurs have more influence on the municipality’s policy and projects in the city. The position is for you if you are looking for a place where drive, ambition and initiative are valued.

What do you want to do?
As a UX Designer, you deliver iron-clad digital (and analogue) concepts and you play an important role in our ambition: excellent municipal services and participation from the perspective of residents and entrepreneurs. Together with your colleagues from Team iD (Innovation & Services) and Team Haags Samenspel, you work on projects in the city on behalf of project managers from the organization. Think of projects such as neighborhood budgets, where the residents themselves allocate the money to initiatives, renovation of the public space in a neighborhood, more space for bicycle parking spaces and complex political processes such as the environmental vision.

Together with the participation advisor, you design the process where you specify why, when, about what and how residents and entrepreneurs can contribute ideas or participate in the decision-making process. You do this in the form of workshops with the project team, which you design and organize together with a participation adviser. You also work intensively with our UX researchers and service designers to gather insights from users and test them later.

You then translate the project team’s ambition and user insight into user-friendly digital (and analogue) designs that the target group can use. You use interactive software to make thinking and decision-making accessible, transparent and more impactful for users. You are able to convert the desired functionalities into a digital (and/or analogue) design, both functionally and visually. You also interact with developers and web editors. You therefore design the interaction between the municipality and residents and entrepreneurs and give them a greater voice in what happens in the city.

What are we asking?
We are looking for a UX Designer who can work independently in a project and who takes initiative. You have a curious and enthusiastic attitude and thus inspire others. You know how to gain confidence, identify opportunities and show courage in your approach. You also ensure a good atmosphere in the team.

Requirements to fill this position:

  • a completed HBO/WO education in the direction of Interaction Design;
  • at least 2 years of relevant work experience;
  • you have experience with participatory or co-creation processes;
  • you have experience with the subjects Citizen Experience, Design Systems, Design Thinking, Service Design and Design Sprints;
  • you have experience designing (interactive) digital applications;
  • you have experience in conducting and applying user research;
  • experience designing analog applications is a plus.

What do we offer?
A position where you have an influence on the services provided to the residents and entrepreneurs in The Hague. Everything takes place in a pleasant working environment and an open culture. Your working environment is easily accessible by public transport and the beach is always nearby, but we also give you the opportunity to work from home.

You can also count on:

  • a 36-hour working week with a minimum wage of €3,701 and a maximum of €5,372 per month (scale 11) based on a full (36-hour) working week;
  • a fixed-term employment contract for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension or an employment contract for an indefinite period;
  • room to build compensatory leave;
  • various training and development opportunities;
  • an individual election budget (IKB) worth 17.05% on top of your salary, which you can use for e.g. extra leave, salary or membership of the exercise center in the town hall;
  • admission to the ABP pension fund and a monthly contribution to health insurance;
  • much attention for culture, starting with the town hall, where cultural, educational, social, commercial and sporting events and exhibitions take place in the central part;
  • and much more. See our other terms of employment.

Who are we?
Team Innovation and Services (iD) and Haags Samenspel are part of the personnel department of the Public Affairs Service (DPZ), located under the Director General. They work with human-oriented innovation of municipal services. We give form and meaning to new and better municipal products, services and solutions and thus have a direct influence on the experiences of large groups of people who turn to the municipality for various reasons. Among other things, the team is involved in municipality-wide policy regarding services, UX research, service design, UX design and the resulting transformation issues. It is a relatively compact and informal team (approx. 15 man-years), full of ambition to establish itself even more strongly in the coming years as the municipal innovation point for designing and implementing even better municipal offers.
