Where the sea is bright
Museum Kranenburgh opens November 13. the exhibition: ‘Where the sea is light’, where different generations of artists come to light. From the ‘Pioneers of the Bergen School’ to the inquiring younger generations and their commitment to the world. The themes of people and nature come to the fore and the changing attitude towards innovation. There are sixty works by, among others: Leo Gestel, Jan Sluijters, Charley Toorop, Jaap Mooy, Philip Akkerman (photo), Claudy Jongstra and Awoiska van der Molen. It is the last exhibition curated by Marianne van Gils. On display until April 10, 2023.
Sounds in your body
An ‘accessible opera’ for anyone aged six and over about how your organs sound. So on November 13 at 3 pm in Cool Heerhugowaard. From the bubble of the stomach to the beating of the heart: With ‘Het Lijflied’ you make an educational, musical journey through the body with Ina. Lucas Wiegerink composed the music that is played live, accompanied by a sound designer. More info: coolkunstencultuur.nl.
Ray Charles, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan: you can hear them all this weekend. 11 Nov 20.30 Carmen Gomes will pay tribute to Ray Charles in Podiumcafé De Brouwerij with Folker Tettero (guitar), Peter Bjornild (bass) and Bert Kamsteeg (drums). On November 12, you can continue with Homeward Dove (photo) in the Remonstrant Church in Alkmaar at 8 p.m. This tribute band from the region brings a repertoire of Leonard Cohen, including polyphonic vocals, guitar, double bass, trumpet and keyboards. Finally, you close the weekend on November 13 at 16 in Taverne Bergen with Joni Mitchell (singer and violinist Indra Kartodirdjo) and Bob Dylan (singer-songwriter Tommy Ebben).
Art in progress
Last chance: until 12 Nov. you can still see ‘Art in the Making’ in Kunstuitleen Alkmaar. The poet and visual artist Maria Barnas worked on botanical drawings, where she was inspired by ‘recess’ from nature. Based on the idea that more and more plant and animal species are disappearing, Barnas is working on an ‘archive of lack’. She will be present on Friday and Saturday 12 Nov. At 15.00 the event ends with a snack and a drink.
Sabrina and Marina
Atelier Marina & Sabrina opens its doors on 12 and 13 November with the new exhibition ‘What if…’. Among other things, you can see pictures of Marina Pronk’s series ‘Branching’ and her latest work ‘Scale III and IV’.
Live music is also programmed every second Sunday of the month by Castricum saxophonist Marian Huiberts. On 13 Nov. from 14.30 to 17: the men from 2HD (photo, Hugo Koeman and Dick Tuninga), who give the exhibition a musical twist: what if well-known songs go a little differently? Admission is free, including a drink and a drink (voluntary donation appreciated).
Pop scene B3
Poppodium B3 regularly programs concerts. On 12 November from 8 pm: ‘Huisje, Boompje, Bandje’ and ‘De Nachtwakers’. The first plays psychobilly, ska, pop and Slavic folk music and holds ‘house tree parties’ all over the country. The Night Watchmen (photo) is ska and reggae. In 2021, they released their debut EP. Entrance: 5 euros.
Saturday 19 Nov. ‘Bezerk’ (Eminem tribute) and ‘Steenkoud’ (rock, rap, metal, funk) are on the programme.
Gallery De Kapberg
With the 50th anniversary of gallery De Kapberg, on 13 Nov. 15.00 the opening of a new exhibition with three artists from Alkmaar. Among other things, Mirjam Oosterbaan made a colorful ceramic motorcycle helmet: what would it be like to drive around with this? Gerben Hermanus made large drawings where people, nature and culture meet. Kees has been drawing on A4 for years. Without thinking too much about it, it produces cartoon-like results. He also occasionally fulfills visitors’ wishes with a drawing on Sundays. On display until December 11. Info: www.galeriedekapberg.nl.

NVPV Alkmaar organizes the autumn fair for stamps, postcards and coins with about fifteen exhibitors in Wijkcentrum Overdie on November 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Do you want to get rid of your collection? Then you can get expert advice. Organizer Nico Louter made an exhibition of postcards of Oud Alkmaar from the period 1890 – WWII from Alex de Jong’s huge collection. Free entry.
Floris de Monchy, Michel Hueber and Eefje Kruijter play on 12 Nov. at 20.00 in Wijkboerderij Alkmaar (Vondelstraat 3) the comedy: ‘A man, a man’ by Kees Prins and Roel Bloemen. About two men on a night out and ‘don’t make things bigger than they are’. Tickets: 12 euros including coffee/tea. Pins not possible.
