JLT Mobile Computers unlocks a bigger operational efficiency -one Storage from forkforkliftp with an innovative software dashboard

JLT insightsoftware contextualizes data provided by built-in sensors i popular vehicle mounted JLT6012terminals for accurate snapshots to make of ITstatus and overall efficiency during vehicle operationactions.

Växjö, Sweden, 6 December 2022 * * * JLT Mobile Computers, a leading developer of reliable computing solutions for demanding environments, has launched JLT Insights, a new data-driven software dashboard for warehouse industries.

The customizable software solution enables warehouse and IT managers to monitor their vehicle-mounted terminals (VMTs) and gain greater operational insight. Based on numerous data points collected from the IT device and sensors, JLT Insights enables customers to optimize the day-to-day operations of their harsh work environments as well as their vehicles.

These new functions are made possible thanks to the information from sensors integrated in the JLT6012 terminals. In addition to informing users about the health of their IT assets, accelerometers and other sensors in the terminals can provide information about the forklift’s movements, speed, acceleration, impact, location and time.

Access to this digital data opens up enormous opportunities for warehouse and IT managers to streamline and improve their picking and logistics operations. By identifying bottlenecks, network connectivity issues, high-traffic areas, driving dynamics, accident-prone zones, and various IT health signals, uptime can be optimized, traffic flow improved, and overall operations improve efficiency and safety.

Shocks are a fact of life when using forklifts. However, when you combine impacts with location data, you can identify areas of higher security risk and/or physical bottlenecks in the logistics operation. Combine power with time and JLT Insights users can identify shifts, while duration and location will highlight excessively local dwell times or indicate areas of heavy traffic.

According to Andreas Nivard, general manager at JLT Software Solutions, “JLT Mobile Computer’s vehicle-mounted JLT6012 terminals incorporate sensor technology similar to a mobile phone. By leveraging the data generated by these sensors, we now deliver even more value-added functions through software solutions.”

“The real power behind JLT’s new hardware and software combined approach,” he continues, “comes from using JLT Insights to combine and contextualize the data captured from the sensors. This data can then be compared before the results are displayed in an easy-to-use and understandable digital dashboard, packed with useful information for warehouse and IT managers.”

The software can be configured for the customer’s application. JLT engineers help users determine what data is most useful to capture and formulate the questions that indicate the most relevant actionable information. The identified data points can be configured by JLT, local partners or customers themselves to add the greatest operational value for continuous improvement.

There are several opportunities for operational improvements, but the main driving force behind the development of the dashboard is to increase uptime by identifying and predicting problems before they occur. This allows companies to develop and implement solutions before these problems result in much more expensive downtime.

“The ability to spot problems before they lead to downtime is a big asset for us,” explains Fredrik Edvardsen, IT manager at IV Produkt, a company based in Växjö, Sweden that develops and manufactures innovative air handling solutions. “Now we have proactive insight into many more operational features, such as power supply, disk space, forklift uptime and maintenance intervals.”

JLT Insights is available today to new and existing users of JLT6012 vehicle-mounted terminals running Windows 10 at a monthly price per unit. “The dashboard is offered on two levels,” explains Andreas. “The first provides all the essential information from IT and dynamic sensors, including event-based notifications, while the next adds metrics and allows users to write queries that can compare one data set and act against another.”

For new purchasers of the vehicle-mounted JLT6012 terminals, the software is pre-installed on the devices. Existing owners can contact JLT via the website to download the software.

In addition to the JLT6012, JLT Insights can be used with other Windows 10 terminals from JLT, although with limited functionality, as previous generations do not have built-in sensors. Support for the Android-based JLT6012A™ terminal is under development and will be released in the first half of next year.

There are many more features on the roadmap and JLT accepts suggestions from its user base.

“We worked closely with JLT to test the software and propose features as part of their trial program,” said Martin Carlsson, warehouse manager at IV Produkt. “We feel that JLT really listened to our needs and we now look forward to using JLT Insights over the next 6 months to make data-driven decisions to increase productivity in our warehouse.”
